In order to keep everyone as safe as possible, the following is the Y policy for youth swimmers 16 years of age or under:

  • Youth 16 years of age and under must take a swim test.
  • All swimmers who pass the test will receive a wristband to wear each time they come to the pool.
  • The swimmer will only be required to take the test once but can re-test at any time.

Skip
By teaching parents to serve as instructors, we orient the child to water and develop beginning swimming skills. Class time will be structured with water and pool orientation, introduction to beginning swimming and structured water play. This is a family program and both parents are encouraged to attend. Potty training is not necessary; however, swim diapers are a must. At 19 months of age, your child should run and jump. At this state your child is encouraged to explore their aquatic environment and their own skills with assistance of their parent. The goal for this level includes propelling oneself through the water and the transition to the preschool levels. No disposable diapers please.

PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS
Ages 3 – 5
Eight - 30 minute
class sessions

 
Pike
The beginner swimmer; children who are first being exposed to water or have a concern of getting their face wet or being submerged are best placed in this level. In these classes the instructor will work with your child to gain comfort in the water while working on basic swimming skills.

  • Tuesday/Thursday at 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m.,
    and 7 p.m.
  • Saturday at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
     

Eels
In this level, your child must be comfortable in the water; they will jump in the water and have no concern of getting their face wet or submerging. The instructor will work with your child to move from a vertical swim position to a horizontal swimming position.

  • Tuesday/Thursday at  6 p.m.
  • Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

 

Ray/Starfish
At this level your child is able to swim independently and at least 15 feet or 5 yards without any floatation device. In this level we will work to improve stroke form and endurance for both front crawl and backstroke. As they progress through the most advanced Preschool level, the Starfish is a child who can swim 75 feet or 25 yards without assistance. Your child will refine their primary strokes and begin to learn the skills for more advanced swimming strokes.

SCHOOL AGE SWIM LESSONS
Ages 6 and up
Eight - 45 minute class sessions


Polliwog
The beginner swimmer; children who are first being exposed to water or have a concern of getting their face wet or being submerged are best placed in this level. In these classes the instructor will work with your child to gain comfort in the water while working on basic swimming skills.

  • Tuesday/Thursday at 6 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.
  • Saturday at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
     

Guppy
The advanced beginner; children who have no concern of getting their face wet or being submerged as well as can swim 75 feet or 25 yards without assistance. Your child will refine their primary strokes and begin to learn the skills for more advanced swimming strokes.

  • Tuesday/Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
  • Saturday at 10:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.


Minnow/Fish
The intermediate swimmer, your child must be able to swim 50 yards on front and back without a flotation device with refined rotary breathing. We will teach your child the beginnings of sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke as well as learn how to swim the dolphin kick. As they progress through to our Fish level, your child will be able to swim 75 yards on front and back without a flotation device with refined rotary breathing using open turns. Upon completion of the Fish level, your child will finalize their competency for sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke as well as learn how to swim the butterfly.

  • Tuesday/Thursday at 6 p.m.
  • Saturday at noon


Flying Fish/Shark
Your child must be able to swim front crawl and backstroke for 100 yards, elementary backstroke and side stroke 50 yards. We will finalize the butterfly as well as begin to learn junior lifeguard skills. All strokes will be refined to top performance. As they progress through to our Shark level, they will be at the most advanced level. Your swimmer will swim all levels proficiently with an ability to use both open and flip turns. A successful 200 IM (Individual Medley) can be completed in top performance. In this final level, we teach 2 retired strokes: Trudgen Crawl and Inverted Breaststroke.

  • Saturday at noon

THINGS TO REMEMBER

We guarantee seven out of our eight lessons every session. If we have to cancel more than once class for any reason, a credit will be issued back to your Y account at the end of the session.

There is a holiday during a session, and we are not going to run classes, we will pro-rate the cost of that class out of the price for that session.

Lessons start on the first Monday of every month.

Lessons run for four week and eight week sessions.


Break weeks for 2013 are the following (No classes will be held):

WATER FITNESS

Silversplash
Exercising in the water is a great way to stay in shape. Body movements are easier and fitness benefits are excellent. This program offers a very good workout for men and women.

Hydro-Robics
Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.
 

Adult Aquatic Arthritis Program
Approved by the A.A.F. A recreational program done in a heated pool. Program participants are led by trained personnel through a series of specifically designed activities which, with the aid of the water’s buoyancy and resistance, can help improve join flexibility and muscular strength. The warm water and gentle movements can also help relieve pain and stiffness.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Kindergarten Program
The Campbell County YMCA is offering a kindergarten program at Ryland, Caywood, Piner and White’s Tower Elementary. The Y's Extended Kindergarten Program offers children the advantage of getting a full kindergarten day, complete with curriculum, learning centers and group work. School Age After School Program
The Campbell County YMCA is now accepting enrollment for the 2011-2012 school year for the after-school programs at:

  • Caywood Elementary *
  • White's Tower Elementary

 

The program operates from 3 - 6 p.m. every day the school is open for grades K - 6. Please contact the member service desk for a complete list of schools served.

The 21st Centry Enrichment Programs begins at 3:30 p.m. For more information about AfterSchool and Kingergarten care at JA Caywood and Ryland Heights, please contact Ann Ahlers-Stahl or ann.stahl@kenton.kyschools.us.

As a reminder, your child care fees are tax deductible as a child care expense. Please be sure to keep all receipts or canceled checks, as the Y is unable to provide duplicates. We will not be able to provide end of year statements. We will be happy to give you our tax identification.

SACC programs will be closed on any days that these schools are closed for holidays or professional days. If you need child care on those days, you may register your child for our School Day Out program for an additional fee. School Day Out program is available for children in kindergarten through seventh grade on most school holidays.

Quality child care with the Y
The SACC program is designed to meet the developmental needs of school-aged students and to support, motivate, and nurture children so that they may achieve their fullest potential all the while keeping them safe!  The program focuses on facilitating the child's sense of industry, promoting a sense of competence, creating an environment conducive to positive peer interaction, challenging children to grow in imagination, creativity, self-directed initiative and leadership, all under the guidance of nurturing and caring staff.

Ages kindergarten to seventh grade
When school is out, the Y is in! Before you take off work or call a babysitter, stop by the Y to register for our all day program. The program is offered on most in-service days, school closings, and holidays. It is only offerd at the Campbell County YMCA location.

PROGRESSIVE GYMNASTICS CLASSES
Based on the national YMCA gymnastics program, our gymnastics program is designed to teach gymnastics skills in a progressive manner, so participants feel success along the way and are ready for new skills at the appropriate time. Consequently, specific skills must be achieved before students move to the next level. Due to the difficulty of certain skills, children will not always move on after one session of instruction. PRESCHOOL GYMNASTICS

Tumblers
Ages 3 - 5  (Must be Potty Trained)
Emphasis on developing strength, flexibility, balance and coordination through swinging, rotating and jumping on the floor, bars beam and vault at the beginning level.

SCHOOL AGE GYMNASTICS

Rollers (Beginners)
Ages 6 and older
Rollers is the first developmental level of the YMCA's progressive gymnastics program. It lays the foundation for movement & learning in the other levels. The skills achievable for a student taking gymnastics for the first time work on basics & progresses to forward & backward rolls, bridges, cartwheels, handstands, walk on balance beam. All Gymnasts start at this level!

HEALTH AND FITNESS

Group Exercise Classes
Group exercise classes are ongoing 12 months a year. You may join an exercise class at any time! Class schedule is subject to change, please check our monthly calendar!

YMCA Member: Free

Silversneakers
Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Handheld weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

Zumba
Take salsa, reggeton, merengue, tango, flamenco, calypso, hip hop, samba and belly dancing and mix it up, you’ll have what is called Zumba. This high energy class with motivating music and unique moves will allow participants to dance away their worries. It is based on the principle that a workout should be Fun and Easy to do.

Boot Camp
A high-energy, super-toning, fat-burning workout using military style strength and stamina training movements. Not recommended for the beginner.

Muscle Pump
This class concentrates on isolating all muscles with and without free weights. All the major muscle groups are worked out with light weights and bands.

Pilates
Builds stamina, improves core muscle control and relieves stress. The emphasis in pilates is building a strong lower back, abdominal midsection, and obliques.

Step
Step is a cardiovascular class utilizing adjustable steps. The higher your step the more calories you burn!

Group Cycle
Group cycling is a moderate to high intensity, non-impact cardiovascular workout for all fitness levels. Your training will require strength, determination and fortitude. You select the intensity of your ride according to your fitness level but don’t be scared to keep up with the instructor.

Power Yoga
If you want something little more demanding than your traditional yoga class, this is it. Strict posture, flexibility, a lot of strength, and some relaxation are on the menu.

Gentle Yoga
A slower traditional practice of the asanas (postures). This class moves slowly as the instructor gives detailed instruction into and out of each asana. Perfect for the beginner or experienced. Each class will leave you feeling stronger, with better balance and flexibility in the joints. This class is suitable for all levels.

Kickboxing
A high-intensity total body workout, incorporating strength training, cardiovascular exercise, and very light-contact kicks and punches are optional.

Body Recall
This is a slow pace class geared toward our seniors. Chairs are used frequently so standing the entire class is not necessary. Body Recall meets in the gymnasium on the first floor not the group exercise room on the second floor.

Hip Hop
If you enjoy the latest dance style and want to stay hip you’ll love this class. It’s a high energy dance class with and emphasis on the keeping the beat to new Hip Hop songs.

Cardio/Muscle
In this high intensity class you’ll enjoy getting both your cardiovascular workout and weights training workout in one session. It’s a great way to knock out your weight training while keeping a high heart rate.

Tai-Chi
This class is for all ages and all ability levels. T'ai Chi is proven to be effective as moderate aerobic exercise in improving balance, stranght, agility, and cardiovascular health without the physical stress that comes from impact exercises like running or stair-climbing. Bring balance, energy, and cal, into your day with T'ai Chi.

TRX Suspension Training

TRX is a great way to build functional strength and provide your muscles with a new challenge. Anyone can use TRX, even you!

Advanced 50 Minute Classes

Wellness Orientation
Our wellness staff will help you determine the right path you need to take to a healthier lifestyle.  This may include the use of ActivTrax which is a web-based system that prints out your weight training routines.

Teen Fit Program
Teens, ages 12 - 15, who want to work out in the Fitness Center, must successfully complete our FREE teen strength class. Call to schedule this three hour class. Completion of the class will allow the teen access to our Cybex vr3 strenght machines as well as all cardiovascular equipment.
 

Personal Training
Training is usually one-on-one instruction that incorporates health education and goal setting into challenging training sessions specially designed for each individual's needs. A personal trainer helps to guide and ensure proper lifting techniques and motivation to achieve personal success and accountability to keep you in check.

Dayton YMCA Teen Center
A community service branch through the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati and supervised by Campbell County YMCA.  The Dayton YMCA Teen Center embraces the Y’S mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The teen center hosts afterschool activities for kids and teens ages 10 and older. The center contains a Tech Lab, Art Lab, Snack Bar, Study, and several sports and gaming equipment. Activities include: homework help, girls and guys nights, xbox games, ping pong, basketball, football, arts and crafts, yoga, and much more. The center is a safe place for the teens of Dayton Kentucky to hang out, have fun, and learn. We are located at 625 2nd Avenue in Dayton, KY.
